VAL DISERE, France -- Canadas Julien Cousineau put the finishing touches on a long and difficult road back from injury in Sundays World Cup slalom qualifying for his first second run -- and secured his first top-30 finish -- since 2011. The 32-year-old from Lachute, Que., attacked from the back to jump from 56th to ninth after the first run and then finish 18th overall, with his teammate Mike Janyk of Whistler, B.C., close behind him in 21st. Cousineaus standout performance represented a huge personal victory after two difficult years in which he first battled back from injury and then was unable to qualify for a second run in a World Cup race. "Its been a long time. Its good for my head and its good for the team," said Cousineau, who clocked a two-run combined time of one minute 46.30 seconds. "I just skied like Ive been doing all summer and ended up with a great time. "Its fun to finally be able to show what Ive been doing in training instead of just talking about it." Starting 56th on a course that was deteriorating as the race went on, Cousineau finished in the top 10 in his first run. "I didnt think it was that good. It felt rough and I was fighting all the way down," Cousineau said of his first run. "When I crossed the line and saw the position I was like, Wow. I was pretty excited. A lot of stress lifted with that. "I havent made a second run since December 21 in 2011. I hurt my knee after that." Janyk needed a top-12 result to earn a spot at the Sochi Games, but struggled with a stomach bug. "I was pretty green this morning," said Janyk, who had a two-run combined time of 1:46.49 and was the second-fastest racer in the top section of the second run. "In my runs I had no power at the bottom. "First run I was touch and go but made it down. Second run I found some energy. There were good top sections on both runs but for me personally it was a mixed bag." With Austrian superstar Marcel Hirscher failing to qualify for the second run, veteran Mario Matt, also of Austria, took the win in 1:44.59. Swedens Mattias Hargin was second (1:45.12) and Italys Patrick Thaler was third (1:45.37). Calgarys Brad Spence was 36th after the first run -- less than four-tenths of a second out of qualifying for the second run -- as he continues his comeback from a long-term injury. Torontos Phil Brown, and Paul Stutz, of Banff, Alta., did not finish their first runs. Stutz, in particular, looked set for a good race after he was 20th in the top split. There is no argument that the line of Pacioretty, David Desharnais and Thomas Vanek was one of the hottest in the NHL leading into the post-season, and they did combine for three goals and seven points, but it was the depth of all four lines that helped propel Montreal. Stroman, making his fifth start for Toronto, allowed one earned run and three hits over a career-high eight innings. http://www.airjordan3wholesale.com/ .com) - The red-hot Los Angeles Kings take aim at an eighth straight victory on Monday night as they wrap up a road trip versus the Calgary Flames. Terrance Broadway threw for 227 yards and Hunter Stover kicked three field goals as the Ragin Cajuns won an unprecedented fourth straight New Orleans Bowl with a 16-3 triumph over Nevada.FIVE QUICK NBA THOUGHTS 1. ATLANTA HAWKS: Incredible performance Sunday night against the Wizards. Absolutely kicked tail. They had eight guys in double figures and 34 assists. Atlanta has won 13 out of 14 and are by far the best team right now in the East. The Toronto Raptors had better be ready for these guys on Friday night. Raps have beaten them twice this year so theyll have their full attention. The Hawks are so sound and well coached. Love to watch them. These guys are for real. 2. TIMOFEY MOZGOV (Cavaliers): Had 14 and 12 with two blocks in an ugly loss on Sunday night. Love this pickup for Cleveland though. Hes an improving offensive player with good rebounding and shot blocking skills. Hell be a huge help when theyre totally healthy. That guy LeBron needs to get back soon. Cleveland has a record of 19-19 - who would have thought that back in the summer? 3. ZACH RANDOLPH (Grizzlies): Put up 27 and 17 in a double overtime win vs. Suns. Nice to have him back on the court. One of my favourite players to watch in the league. A beast. So tough to move in the post. Incredibly crafty and can scoree at will in there and has excellent mid-range game.dddddddddddd You better bring your hard hat when you compete against him. Makes this club a tough out. 4. JEFF GREEN (Grizzles): Speaking of the Grizz, love this pickup for them. Always nice to wing scoring pop and he brings it. Solid defender as well when hes in the right system. Hes not a No. 1 or 2 scorer or a lead personality but in the right situation hes an ideal talented complementary piece. I think this is a nice situation for him. You never have enough wing talent in this league and I think this was a terrific get for Memphis. 5. CHRIS BOSH (Heat): In a season where he has missed eight games already its been a tough go for the Heat when hes not in the mix. 16-21 is not acceptable in Miami. He was fabulous in an upset of the Clippers with 34 and 7. Each game back he looks more and more like his old self. If he and D-Wade stay healthy, the Heat will still be heard from as a secondary team in the East. Do I see them being able to win a playoff round? Doubt it. No depth yet but theyre not an easy team to play when theyre healthy.
